ABELL SILENCES WHITE

By Jesse Kelley- Minnesotaboxing.com
Joey "Minnesota Ice" Abell (25-4, 24 KO's) stopped
Larry "Super King" White (3-7, 3KO's) in round
two Saturday night in Mounds View, MN. Abell cleverly
landed big left hands to the head in round one while bobbing
and weaving away from White's counter punching attempts.
White did a lot of talking and mocking of Abell in round
one, inviting the big southpaw to engage him. Abell smiled
as he rocked White on several occasions.
A big right uppercut from Abell rocked White early in
round two. White switched his passive strategy after taking
the shot and came forward with heavy punches. A slugfest
momentarily broke out as both men looked to land a knockout
punch. Abell put an end to White's KO hopes with a crushing
right hand to the head that sent him slumping to the canvas
where referee Mark Nelson waived the fight off midway
through the round.
In other action, Jon "Iron Man" Schmidt (9-1,
7 KO's) stopped Dan Copp (0-1) in round three. Schmidt
spent most of the fight stalking Copp with a hard jab
and body punches. Copp, an MMA fighter, constantly circled
and moved while throwing countering punches. After two
slower rounds, Schmidt turned up the pressure in round
three. A right hand to the head staggered Copp and sent
him stumbling to the ropes. Schmidt followed up with another
right to the head that sent Copps mouth piece flying and
Mark Nelson stopped the fight at 1:49 of the third round.
Jeremy McLaurin (4-0, 4 KO's) was too much for southpaw
Harold McLeod (0-2).
Charles Meier (2-1, 1 KO) stopped Ryan Stock (0-1) at
1:21 of the third round in the nights opening bout.
The bout between Rocky Graziano and Quincy Miner did not
take place. Word is that Miner had an argument with his
girlfriend and decided to leave the fight venue moments
before his bout.

OLIVERIA CONTINUES TO
ROLL
by Jesse Kelley
Unbeaten light heavyweight Marcus Oliveria
(19-0, 15 KO's) continued to look impressive as he nearly
decapitated Otis Griffin (19-6, 7 KO's) with a vicious
uppercut to the head near the end of round two in the
co-main event. Ironically, it was Griffin who started
the action with a right uppercut to Oliveria's jaw in
the opening moments of the bout. Both men traded heavy
leather but Oliveria looked to be the stronger puncher.
Oliveria would confirm this as he landed the fight ending
uppercut at 2:25 of the second round. The shot sent Griffin
backwards head first on the canvas where he he was laid
out for a few minutes.
Look For Oliveria in action next at the
"Barnyard Brawl" in Prescott, Wi on Aug 29th.

STAYING GOLDEN
by Jesse Kelley
Middleweight "Golden" Caleb Truax (11-0,
8 KO's) won an eight round split decision over southpaw
Durrell Richardson (11-3, 4 KO's) in a featured bout.
Truax stalked his opponent as he attempted to pick apart
Richardson who was content to throw rights to the body
and get out of harms way. Truax's higher workrate swayed
the judges his way as Richardson seemed happier to display
his defensive skills rather then engage with Truax.
Scores read 79-74, 77-75, and 80-72 for Truax.
Look for Truax to be facing Robert Kayma (16-10) in
July.
